In this solo recap episode, I discuss the most important points and takeaways from my recent chat with software and marketing expert Kevin La Rue.
Here’s a recap of what I rant about in this episode 🙂
1. If you want it, ASK for it.
Go for it. Put youself out there. Don’t just sit around waiting for someone to send you an email or knock on your door. You have to go out and get it.
Some practical ways include: photo contests, workshops, podcasts, and gallery showings. If there’s a publication you want to work for, reach out to them (after making sure your portfolio is appropriate). If they reject you, get their feedback as to why so that you can improve.
2. The Magic Happens When You’re Outside of Your Comfort Zone.
Get outside of your comfort zone. Stretch yourself. That’s where the magic happens. I referenced Pat Flynn from SmartPassiveIncome.com (which is not a photography related blog, but super useful nonetheless).
You’ll find that when you put yourself outside of your comfort zone, opportunities will start to come your way. “Luck “ will seem to happen more.
3. Your style is one of the things that will distinguish you from other photographers.
In the episode with Kevin, I referenced Tim Wallace’s statement about your photographic style being what will set you apart. Your style is what helps high quality clients distinguish you from the zillion other photographers out there.
