Damian Strohmeyer

Ann Ringwood/The Lexington Minuteman.

In Damian’s words: “Husband, Father, Photographer. I’m a commercial photographer now after more than 30 years in editorial first in newspapers in Topeka, Kansas and then at The Denver Post. Worked for the legendary Rich Clarkson at both places. Started at Sports Illustrated as a freelancer in 1983 and worked as a freelancer, contract photographer, staff photographer and now again formative to time as a freelancer. I do consulting and education in addition to photography in the commercial and editorial fields. I’m married to a photographer: Joanne Rathe who has worked at The Boston Globe since 1985. We have three children Jessye who is a recruiter for the restaurant management company ‘Open Table,’  Zachary who is a junior Business Management major at Elon University in Elon, North Carolina, and Leah who is a junior in High School at Lexington High School in Lexington, Massachusetts.”

I want to give a huge thank you to Damian for taking the time to chat with us! I consider myself as much a student as the listening audience, and appreciate him sharing his extensive knowledge.

In this interview, we discuss:

  • The importance of getting to know people face to face.
  • Not taking your past clients for granted.
  • The fact that you cannot do everything in your business.
